Keeper
Sometimes I feel accepted by the keeper of the universe
by the darkness of the night and the sparkle of the light.
Sometimes I feel protected by the secrets of the universe
by stones along the path, by poems that make me laugh and cry.
I can’t believe life is so good to me –
tell me what did I do to make this dream come true?
Sometimes I feel connected to the beauty of the universe
to everything that stays and things that pass away.
I can’t believe life is so good to me
tell me what did I do to make this dream come true?
Tell me what did I do to make this dream come true
Oh tell me what did I do to make this dream come true?

Butterfly Dream

Butterfly Dream
I’m a swimmer in the sea by the Laura B
I don’t know where the tide is taking me.
I ain’t been here before, I’m going shore to shore
Don’t know if I’m awake or if I’m dreaming.
If you see me swimming by and have it you won’t you stop and smile with me?
If you want to catch up with me I’d love to help you but I can’t slow down you see.
I’m a butterfly in a storm, in a hurricane
Don’t know where the wind is taking me.
I ain’t been here till now, going flower to flower
Don’t know if I’m awake or if I’m dreaming.
If you see me flutter by and have it in you won’t you stop and smile with me?
If you want to catch up with me I’d love to help you but I can’t slow down you see.
Last night I dreamt I was a flutter butterfly
today I don’t know if I am a man who dreamt he’s a butterfly
or a butterfly dreaming he’s a man.
I’m ship wrecked on a shoal in my soul
Dont’ know where the waves are crashing me.
Lying on my side in the turning tide
Coming going see the sail boats flowing.
If you see me sailing by and have it in you won’t you stop and smile with me?
If you want to catch up with me I’d love to help you but I can’t slow down you see.
Last night I dreamt I was a flutter butterfly
today I don’t know if I am a man who dreamt he’s a butterfly
or a butterfly dreaming he’s a man.
Last night I dreamt I was a flutter butterfly
today I don’t know if I am a man who dreamt he’s a butterfly
or a butterfly dreaming he’s a man.

Which Wave
02:28
|

Which Wave
Which wave turns the tide to the other side?
High or low again the peak is reached and then?
Which hand shapes the moon fills it spoon by spoon?
If you knew the reason why, tears might tumble from your eye.
Empties drop by drop from bottom to the top.
Which hand spins the Earth from death until rebirth?
Bathes it in the light then pulls the shades at night.
If you knew the reason why, tears might tumble from your eye.
If you knew the reason why tears might tumble from your eye.
Which cloud hides the sun puts rabbits on the run?
Which crest on a wave will lead me to my grave?
If you knew the reason why tears might tumble from your eye?
I do not dare to tell you why, if I speak the truth I'll die.

Dukulay
He’s 14 years old he was born on Independence Day–
they call him Dukulay, Dukulay, Dukulay.
He’s 5’2” he weighs 100 lbs. Wearing his AK-47 and hundreds of rounds.
Dukulay, Dukulay, Dukulay they made your family run away.
Dukulay, Dukulay, Dukulay are you ever gonna play again?
He fought in WW1 and WW 2, attack and retreat was all he could do.
He fought to survive, he fought to be free, he even fought in WW3.
Dukulay, Dukulay, Dukulay they made your family run away.
Dukulay, Dukulay, Dukulay are you ever gonna play again?
He fought for the rebels and government too,
He fought for his life what else could he do?
They gave him magic, and medicine and tons of cocaine
To deal with the hunger and fear and the pain .
Dukulay, Dukulay, Dukulay they made your family run away.
Dukulay, Dukulay, Dukulay are you ever gonna play again?
The tropical jungle is so shady
They’re cutting down trees for black Mercedes
The guns they sell are made down the block
Standard 47’s without childhood locks, no.
Dukulay, Dukulay, Dukulay they made your best friend run away.
Dukulay, Dukulay, Dukulay his gun was made in the USA.
Dukulay, Dukulay, Dukulay they made your family run away.
Dukulay, Dukulay, Dukulay enslaved them in the USA.

Colors
I chase the light
I’m a devil in disguise
The sunshine bright just burns away my lies
I’m worn and tired by trial and error
I’m not inspired by pain and terror, oh no
I fall for darkness
I’m an angel in despair
To light a spark of goodness I don’t care
My fire is out beyond retrieval
I have my doubts about good and evil
I have my doubts about good and evil
We fight about black, we fight about basic white
about apricot and turquoise blue at twilight
and Indian Red and Egyptian Green
marigold and Spanish Moss and tourmaline
We fight about black, about black and white
about those that have and those that don’t at twilight
and Indian Red and Egyptian Green
marigold and Spanish Moss and tourmaline
we fight about the price of oil and the war machine
I fight myself and can not win this war
sit on a shelf and ask what’s the killing for?
I’m sick of death and guts and glory
I hold my breath for a brand new story
I’m sick of death of guts and glory
I hold my breath for a brand new story
I’m sick to death of guts and glory
I hold my breath for a brand new story
I’m sick to death of guts and glory
I hold my breath for a brand new story

I get vitamin B from the sea
I get vitamin C from a tree
I get vitamin D from a bee
and vitamin E from a chimpanzee
I get vitamin A from butterflies fluttering by the hay
I get vitamin K from seagulls swimming across the bay
I get vitamin B1 from having a little fun
I get vitamin U from you
I get vitamin M from them
I get vitamin X from sex
and vitamin L from sea shore shells
I get vitamin O from black crows swooping through the snow
and vitamin R from when i wish upon a star
I get vitamin B1 from having a little fun
Take ‘em everyday
Take ‘em one day
Take ‘em two day
Take ‘em three a day
Take ‘em, take ‘em, take ‘em
B1 from having a little fun
B2 from having fun with you
B3 from simply being me
Take ‘em one day
Take ‘em two day
Take ‘em three a day
Take ‘em, take ‘em, take ‘em

Bye, Bye, Bayou

Bye Bye Bayou
I know a woman who’ll settle in her skin
Sitting on a hard rock waiting to begin to go with the flow
Watch the tide come and go
But it’ll take a little time for vacation to let her go slow
Meanwhile bye bye bayou under flood,
Bye bye bayou water and mud
Bye bye bayou the levees broke
Bye bye bayou money’s no joke
What do the poor folk have to do to live like me and live like you
I know man he knows what’s wrong
‘been running in circles too fast and too long, he’s got to go with the flow
watch the tide come and go
but it’ll take a little time for vacation to let him go slow
meanwhile bye bye bayou the poor hang on
bye bye bayou the rich are gone
bye bye bayou something’s wrong
bye bye bayou with this song
what do the rich folk have to do to die like me and die like you
category one we are on the run
category three trying to be free
category five dying to survive
bye bye bayou see you next year
bye bye bayou I shed some tears
bye bye bayou we mourn the dead
bye bye bayou let’s change the world instead
what do the poor fol have to do to live like me and live like you
the rich folk have to do to die like me and die like and you
poor folk have to do to live and die like me and you
to live and die like me and you,
me and you.

This is Because That Is
03:21
|

This is ‘Cause That Is
(inspired by Tich Nat Han)
This is cause that is
this is this ‘cause that is that
this wave is ‘cause that wave is
this wave is like this because that wave is like that
water and air everywhere, clean water and air everywhere
The Arco Felice Arco Felice
and the Sea Hag were floating in peace
out in the harbor when the tide came in
waiting for the tide to come in
on the horizon dancing in diamonds
the full moon was rising bearing her soul
I slipped into the water to take a swim
In the water I see that
this is cause that is
this is this because that is that
this wave is cause that wave is
this wave is like this because that wave is like that
water and air everywhere, clean water and air everywhere
Swim to Manana swim to nirvana
swim to Monhegan in ocean’s of gold
my skin’s fire engine red fighting the cold swimming in ripples of gold
white caps are cresting the wind is arresting shadows at twilight
each drop of goodness travels the whole wide world
peace begets heaven on earth
This is cause that is
this is this because that is that
this wave is cause that wave is
this wave is like this because that wave is like that
water and air everywhere, clean water and air everywhere.

Phases of the Moon and the Sea
The phases of the moon and the sea
Are locked together by the laws of gravity
The seaweed and the barnacle rock
Depend upon the rhythm of a master clock
How can I see I’m blinded by me?
The tide’s going out
it’s time to sink or swim beyond the shadow of a doubt.
The seagulls on the crest of a wave
Pull a pair of crabs out of their ocean cave
then drop them on their backs on a stone
And eat out all the flesh just leaving shell and bones
How can I hear I fall on deaf ears?
The chop of the surf
drowning out the cries of Mother Father Earth.
The hunter and the hunted are one
The earth and moon are traveling around the sun
We eat until the day we die
We’re taken from the table with the turning tide
How can I feel? My life isn’t real
the sun in the sky
casts a cold eye on whether I live or die.
There’s more to life than I can surmise
perhaps the changing surface is a thin disguise
our destiny is driving the tides
we ebb and flow around the globe from side to side
I start to see it’s not about me
I hear the call beyond the big and small
‘cause it includes us all.
The phases of the moon and the sea

Breaking Faith

I Keep Breaking Faith
In the darkness, in the coldness, in the stillness in my soul
In the silence, in the violence, I am hungry to be whole
I can see you, I can feel you, I can let you in my heart
I can heal you, I can hurt you, I can let things fall apart
I keep breaking faith with the one I love
I keep breaking faith with the one who gives me a piece of the sun
I keep breaking trust with the one who trusts me
I keep breaking trust with the one who gives me a piece of the sun
In the darkness, in the coldness, in the stillness in my soul
In the silence, in the violence, I am hungry to be whole
I can see you, I can feel you, I can let you in my heart
I can heal you, I can hurt you, I can let things fall apart
I keep making love with the one i love
I keep making love with you
I keep making love with the one i love
I keep making love with you

Floating in the River of Life
Floating in the River of Life never had a house or a wife
never had kids or a car, I was floating like a shadow cast by a star.
Floating in the River of Life with a garbage barge by my side
and a throng of seagulls diving in the trash going, “Caw,” “Caw,” “Caw”, “Caw”
half way to the sea, the shore is more far away than it used to be.
Floating in the River of Life like a ripple on the tide,
like a magic carpet ride across a great divide.
Floating in the River of Life like a drop in the deep blue sea
lying on my back waiting for the sun to come again and find me
Floating in the River of Life, floating like a rippling tide
floating like a drop in the sea, floating like a leaf in a tree.
Floating in the River of Life, like sunset under a sing
like a pair of geese flying home to Canada in early spring,
like seagulls in the wind, like a shadow rises to paradise just to fall, to fall again.
Floating in the River of Life, floating like a rippling tide
Floating like a drop in the sea, floating like a leaf in a tree.
Floating in the River of Life, floating like a rippling tide
Floating like a drop in the sea, floating like a leaf in a tree.

Old Story

Old Story
“Daddy is that the moon?”
“No silly goose, that’s a loon, the moon doesn’t have wings to fly.”
“Daddy, why does the sun go down down so soon?’
“I don’t know sonny, it’s time to go home.”
“No Daddy, I don’t want to go home.
No daddy, I don’t want to go home.”
Night after night on a faraway shore,
wave after wave washes in the front door
the undertow’s coming to take you away
“I’m sorry Daddy, but I can not stay
it’s and old story, an old story
barnacle seaweed and muscles that sing
saltwater shanties the mariners bring a
bundles off needles the compass runs wild
I’m sorry Daddy, but I’m not a child it’s an old story
an old story
Water and Salt
“It’s not my fault that I grew up to be me
weeds in the sea need to be free. I’m ready, i’m ready
onward i go with my heart undertow
failing, and flailing, and where did you go?
Old Story. Old story.
Old story, Olld story
Water and salt
Walking on water with spray in my hair
“Look Daddy look , no hands and no cares”"
The undertow’s serving up mother’s of pearl
the mariner says, “That i need a girl.”
it’s an old story. An old story.
“Daddy is that the moon?”
“No silly goose, that’s a loon, the moon doesn’t have wings to fly.”
“Daddy, why does the sun go down so soon?’
“I don’t know sonny, it’s time to go home.”
“No Daddy, I don’t want to go home.
No daddy, please, I don’t want to go home.”

Lonely Song

Lonely Song
Early morning
i heard you yawn
i went to see the sunrise
but i was late
you couldn’t wait
and left before i realized
i foresee day
when my love or i pass away
and i return to the open sea
and sing a lonely song
and the sea will always be the same
and the sea won’t even know my name
I foresee a time
when without reason and without rhyme
a wave will come from across the sea and take you away from me
and the sea will always be the same
and the sea won’t even know my name
Early this morning I heard you yawning the light was dawning
i went to see the sun rise
but I arrived late, the sun could not wait
you opened our gate
and left before I realized
and the sea will always be the same
and the sea won’t even know my name
